Iran shoots down unmanned US spy plane

The military shot down an unmanned Iranian spy plane that the United States has violated Iranian airspace along the eastern boundary.

An unidentified soldier quoted by the official news agency IRNA on Sunday warned of a crushing response to a violation of Iranian airspace by U.S. drone aircraft.




"A U.S. spy drone Advanced RQ170 was killed by the armed forces of Iran. It 'was slightly damaged and is now in possession of the armed forces of Iran," IRNA quoted the official as saying.


No other details were given.

Iran is embroiled in a dispute with the United States and its allies in Tehran's nuclear program, saying that the West believes is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies the accusations and says that the program is designed to generate electricity and to produce isotopes for medical use.
